Facts about Teeth Whitening

- Professional teeth whitening is very safe. The process uses active ingredients to temporarily open pores in your teeth and lift stains. After each whitening session, your teeth naturally remineralize and rehydrate.
- As we age, our teeth become darker due to the fact that they absorb stains in our daily diet like Smoking, tea, coffee, beets …. etc. These stains will never go away unless you actively remove them.
- During the whitening process, it is completely normal for sensitivity to occur, luckily it’s reversible. The teeth become temporarily dehydrated which reduces their ability to insulate the nerve from changes in temperature. Sensitivity will disappear 24-48 hours.
- Crowns, veneers or fillings are not whitened. They have to be changed to match the new colour of your bleached teeth.
- There is No such thing as ONE METHOD FITS ALL. Genetic factor, shade of teeth, sensitivity if present and many other factors vary from one person to another. Luckily again we have In Office and At Home kits to ensure you get the desired results while maintaining healthy teeth. Only a dentist can advice you with the method that suits you.
- Sometimes we have to combine both methods to get the desired white shade and that’s perfectly normal as some teeth are quite resistant to bleaching.
- Sadly the results are not permenant. They need maintenance (often with custom-fitted whitening trays or repeat dental visits). Well, so is tanning, botox and fillers.
- Yellow teeth will probably bleach well, brown teeth may not respond as well and teeth with gray tones may not bleach at all.
- Whitening should last from one to five years, depending on your personal habits such as smoking and drinking coffee and tea …etc
- Lemon and Baking soda will harm you big time even though they may seem to whiten your teeth. They will damage your enamel and disturb your oral flora. So please don’t listen to friends or neighbours suggesting home remedies that whiten teeth.
